It’s that time of year again – the farm fresh tulips that are a customer favorite have arrived from Holland! Spring is just around the corner and this is prime season for tulips. We have been ordering our tulips from Holland farmers for years and found this to be the best source for this beautiful flower variety. We hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. For those of you who placed Valentine’s flower orders with us, thank you so much for your business and for the chance to be a part of your 2014 Valentine’s experience. The unprecedented winter storm that rolled through Atlanta brought our city and most business activity to a virtual halt. The storm left thousands without power and the devastating ice and snow it delivered prompted our Governor to declare a state of emergency that included the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Governor requested that all non-essential business traffic remain off the roads. Carithers Flowers made every effort to comply with his request. Media coverage of the impending storm began over the weekend leading up to Valentine’s week and peaked on Monday, just before the first blast of ice and snow reached our city. We heeded the warnings from local broadcast media and began pro-actively contacting customers who had previously placed orders for Tuesday and Wednesday delivery. We advised each customer of the storm related information we were receiving and suggested they allow us to move their delivery to either Monday, Thursday or Friday. Flowers: The Most Popular Valentine’s Day Gift

The Society of American Florists verified that Valentine’s Day is the number one holiday of the year for florists across the country. Fresh flower purchases accounts for 36 percent of all Valentine’s Day purchases and 40 percent of the holiday dollar sales volume. Other interesting facts gathered by the Society of American Florists in 2013 was information about the types of flowers bought, who is buying, and for whom the flowers are being bought. Consumers are typically remaining pretty traditional when it comes to their Valentine’s Day flowers with 63 percent of them purchasing red roses, 41% mixed flowers, and 27% roses that are not red. Thirty percent selected a flower variety beside roses, such as tulips, lilies, etc. while 22 percent opted to give a plant. Of the 25 percent of adults that bought flowers for Valentine’s Day, 64 percent were men and 36 percent were women. More than half the recipients of these flower gifts for Valentine’s Day are spouses followed by mothers, significant others, friends, self, sister, other relatives and children.
